# Models
The **Models** page lists your graph models and model groups as tiles. A model is built from files you have analyzed: select them on the [Files](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/files.md) page and click **Build graph model**, or use **Build new model** on the Home page, which also activates the new model and opens it in [Ask Galaxia](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/ask-galaxia.md). Each model has a unique ID that you can use in the [Smabbler API](/smabbler/api/api-guide.md).
## Finding your models
* Search by model name, model ID or group name in the **Search by name or ID** box.
* Filter the list with the status tabs. **All** is always shown. The other tabs appear only for statuses your models have, each with a count.
* The page shows as many tiles as fit in your window. Use the page numbers below the tiles to see the rest.
* The **Quick tip** line below the list suggests what to do next.
* The list refreshes itself every 15 seconds.
## Model tile
Each tile shows:
* The model name, its status and the **⋮** menu with the model actions.
* When the model was last modified. Point to it to see the exact date and time.
* The files the model is built from.
* A switch that activates or deactivates the model, with its state next to it, such as **Enabled**, **Enabling…** or **Disabled**.
* The **Sources** button, which opens the page where you change the model's files, and the **Ask** button, which opens the model in [Ask Galaxia](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/ask-galaxia.md). **Ask** is available once the model is active.
## Model statuses
* **Pending create** - the model is being built from its files.
* **Draft** - the model has no finished build. A failed build also shows as *Draft*, and the model's history says *Model build failed.*
* **Inactive** - the model is built and ready to be activated. It uses no GCUs.
* **Pending Activation** - the model is being activated, or updated after you changed its sources.
* **Active** - the model is running and answers your questions.
* **Sleeping** - the model was not used for 30 minutes and went to sleep. It stays enabled and wakes up by itself when you ask it a question, so the first answer may take a little longer. To wake it up yourself, choose **Wake up** in the **⋮** menu. Its tile shows **Waking up…** until the model is active again.
* **Issue** - the model's status could not be changed. Try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, contact support.
## Activating and deactivating a model
To activate a model:
1. Click the switch on the model's tile.
2. Click **Activate** in the **Activate model** window.
3. Wait while the model shows *Pending Activation*. After a few minutes it becomes *Active*.
4. Click **Ask** to ask the model questions in [Ask Galaxia](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/ask-galaxia.md).
You need an active subscription to activate a model. You can have up to 5 models activating, active or sleeping at the same time. When you reach the limit, the **Cannot activate model** window asks you to deactivate one of your active models first.
To deactivate a model, click its switch and then **Deactivate** in the **Deactivate model** window. The model becomes *Inactive* straight away.
An active or sleeping model uses GCUs from your balance. A sleeping model uses less, and an inactive model uses none. See [Account & Access](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/account-and-access.md) for how GCUs work.
The portal can also deactivate a model by itself, for example after a long period of inactivity or when activating or updating the model fails. You then see the message *Model has been automatically disabled* with the reason, and you can activate the model again. When your subscription ends or your GCU balance runs out, all your models are deactivated.
## Model actions
Click **⋮** on a model's tile to open the model actions:
* **Wake up** - wakes up a sleeping model. Shown only for sleeping models.
* **Remove** - deletes the model after you confirm. This cannot be undone. An active model is deactivated first.
* **Rename** - changes the model's name. A name can be up to 120 characters.
* **Copy model ID** - copies the model's ID, which you need for [API](/smabbler/api/api-guide.md) calls.
* **Add to group** - adds the model to a group. See *Model groups* below.
* **See in graph** - opens the model's graph in the [Graph Model Preview](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/graph-explorer.md#model-graph). Available for active models.
* **History** - shows what happened to the model. See *Model history* below.
* **Sources** - opens the page where you change the model's files. See *Changing a model's sources* below.
## Changing a model's sources
Click **Sources** on a model's tile, or choose **Sources** in its **⋮** menu. You can change the sources of a built model that is inactive, active or sleeping.
The page that opens lists your files in the tabs **All**, **In model**, **Available** and **Staged changes**. Only analyzed files can be added.
1. Select the files you want to add and clear the ones you want to remove. They are marked **+ Will be added** or **− Will be removed**.
2. Click **Save changes**.
3. Check the list of changes and click **Save and rebuild**.
The model is rebuilt with the new set of files. An active model shows *Pending Activation* until the update is finished. A model must keep at least one file. To start again, click **Discard changes**.
## Model history
Choose **History** in the **⋮** menu to see what happened to the model, newest first: when it was created and built, with the files it was built from, when it was activated, deactivated, went to sleep or woke up, and when its sources changed. If a model shows *Draft*, or was deactivated without your action, its history tells you why.
## Model groups
A group lets you activate several models and ask them questions together.
To create a group, choose **Add to group** in a model's **⋮** menu, click **Create new**, enter a group name and click **Create**. The model is added to the new group. A group name can be up to 120 characters and must be different from the names of your other groups.
To add another model, choose **Add to group** in its **⋮** menu, select the group and click **Add**. A model can belong to one group only. Adding it to another group moves it there.
On the **Models** page, a group has one tile that stands for all its models. The tile shows the group's status and the names of its models, and has:
* A switch that activates or deactivates all models in the group. The limit of 5 active models still applies.
* **Models**, which opens the page where you add or remove the group's models.
* **Ask**, which asks all models in the group together in [Ask Galaxia](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/ask-galaxia.md). It is available when all the models are active.
* The **⋮** menu with **Models**, **Rename** and **Delete**. Deleting a group does not remove its models.
A group is **Active** when all its models are active, **Partial** when only some of them are, **Pending Activation** while they are being activated, and **Inactive** otherwise. A warning sign on the tile names the models whose status change failed.
On the group's page, select the models you want to add and clear the ones you want to remove, then click **Save changes** and confirm. This changes only which models belong to the group, not their status. Models that are not built yet cannot be added. A group must keep at least one model. To remove all of them, delete the group.
## Public models
Public models are shared with everyone who uses the portal. You find them on the Home page under **Suggested public models**, where **See all** opens the full list, and in [Ask Galaxia](/smabbler/smabbler-portal/ask-galaxia.md), also without signing in.
The list shows each model's name with an **Ask** button, its ID with a copy button and the date it was last modified. **Ask** is available while the public model is active.
